Mikumi National Park

Mikumi

Mikumi National Park

The Mikumi National Park covers 3 230 km² and it is the third biggest in size among Tanzania Parks, after Serengeti and Ruaha. Easily accessed from Dar es Salaam on a good main road, just 4 hours away, the park unexpectedly remains one of the least visited in Tanzania. The surrounding area is attractive with rolling hills and a good variety and density of wildlife, including elephants, buffalos, giraffes, lions, many species of antelope and the amazing wild dog.

Our advice

Our advice

The best time to visit Mikumi Park is during the dry season from July to February. In the rainy season, only elephants and giraffes appear above the high grasslands. For those who wish to discover Mikumi, two nights in this Park fits in well with the Ruaha or a trek in the Udzungwa National Park.
