Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park, with Mount Meru which dominates this wilderness area

This small but very picturesque National Park is at high altitude, ranging between 1,500 and 4,566 meters and only covers 137 km ².

It is very diverse and bounded by the foothills of Mount Meru, a dormant volcano, the crater of Ngurdoto, and the beautiful Momela lakes .

The Park covers areas where the Maasai lived and most place names come from their language.

The Park was known as Ngurdoto Crater Park. In 1967, Mount Meru was included within the boundaries.

  Our advice

Arusha National Park does not feature in the brochures of most operators, which is a pity.

This lovely small Park can be visited at the end of the safari, if you have a “spare” day.

Located between Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro with beautiful landscapes, the Park has very varied wildlife, including manhy giraffe buffalo, and especially the famous “caped” monkey, the local species of Black & White Colobus, the Park's mascot.

Finally, without necessarily tackling the quite tough summit trek, this Park offers hiking, with an armed Park Ranger, which is a very pleasant break from safari minibus or 4x4 ride.
